We are a member of the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). Telemedicine is the delivery of health-related services and information using telecommunication technologies.
Program Details
The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) is one of the largest telemedicine networks in the world. OTN uses two-way videoconferencing to provide care for patients in hundreds of health care locations across Ontario. In addition to patient care, it enables distance education and meetings for health care professionals.
Telemedicine appointments are similar to an ordinary doctor’s appointment. You will be able to see and speak to the health care professional via a monitor. Patients with dermatology conditions may receive treatment through a Telederm appointment, in which digital photographs of your skin condition are forwarded electronically to a dermatologist who reviews them and provides a diagnosis and treatment path. There is no cost for care provided by telemedicine for patients with a valid Ontario Health card.
How does telemedicine help patients?
- Provides care closer to home.
- Provides access to a wider variety of specialists.
- Decreases time and costs associated with travel.
How can I get a Telemedicine appointment?
When a patient of the Powassan & Area Family Health Team is referred to a specialist by their primary health care provider, they may have the option of a telemedicine appointment.
